In the textile sector, the process of dyeing cellulosic fibers (such as cotton) involves the use of reactive dyes, which requires significant quantities of water and NaCl, resulting in a large volume of effluent. Consequently, a literature review on this subject is warranted, specifically exploring alternative processes that could reduce the consumption of water and NaCl in this industry. This study consisted of a literature review, utilizing the following descriptors: “reactive dye; salt; cotton fabric; color; adsorption; effluent; textile processing; chemical and textile processes.” Twenty full-text articles were selected and analyzed using the following techniques: Zipf’s Law diagram, simple lexical analysis, similarity analysis, and descending hierarchical classification. The most relevant and frequently occurring terms were: dye (62), reactive (43), salt (34), cotton (34), process (34), water (32), fabric (26), and fiber (20). This methodology enabled a comprehensive mapping of research on the topic, as well as alternative and innovative techniques that maintain the same quality standards, with a consistent focus on reducing environmental impact and improving production processes.
