THE Effects of Physiotherapeutic Rehabilitation in Individuals with Lower Limb Amputation.

The amputation of a lower limb directly impairs an individual's quality of life and daily functionality. Consequently, support and guidance from a professional team during the postoperative period are essential for a faster and more efficient rehabilitation. The primary causes include vascular issues—often stemming from smoking or diabetes mellitus—as well as trauma resulting from traffic accidents, firearm injuries, crush injuries, or workplace accidents. This research aims to examine the effects of physical therapy on the rehabilitation of individuals who have undergone a lower-limb amputation. The study is a literature review, classified as exploratory and descriptive, conducted using the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and the Virtual Health Library (VHL) platforms. It seeks to highlight the importance of physical therapy in the postoperative care of lower-limb amputees. Based on the reviewed literature, it is concluded that the role of physical therapy in the rehabilitation of individuals with lower-limb amputations is a key factor in achieving significant outcomes throughout the pre- and postoperative phases, leading up to eventual prosthetic fitting.
